The Untidy Wind

The untidy sunny wind
That flaps the sheet
Distracts and flusters and maddens
Flicks and flutters the lawyer’s brief
Lifts and drops her collar
And tousles her hair
Torments the prisoner with light
Who last night
Lay like a hedgehog
Forgetful
Under his log pile
With the stars circling over his roof
Now sweating raw in the awful day

The unruly air
The offensive glare
Unsettle the class in hut eleven
Pulling and pushing the gulls askance
That trail from the gritty plough
The dazzling, aching, breezy flare
Somewhere
The suicide’s last sound and sight
Now shuffles and jumbles the skips
And the trash on the street
